Insurance comparison in the UAE was a smart wedge because insurance is mandatory yet the buying experience was atrocious. Yalla Compare digitized that process in a market where Google search costs for insurance keywords are among the highest in the world.
The July 2025 acquisition by COMIN Insurance is revealing. Comparison platforms face a structural tension: they generate leads, but insurers eventually want to own the customer relationship. COMIN's acquisition reflects a desire to control the distribution funnel. The broader lesson: insurance comparison may be a feature, not a company.
